What it’s like to travel alone in Caraíva

SOLA TRAVEL

Traveling alone is always a very special experience, isn’t it?
Being with yourself.
I think solitude is a very important thing these days.
How often we have a projection and an eternal search for that romantic love and how fundamental it is to learn to fall in love with ourselves so that we can live any kind of relationship and be whole.
I think you come back a different person every time you travel and I hope that more and more women travel alone.

Before I went away, I had dinner with some friends from school and they said, “Wow, Lara, it’s amazing how you meet people, I think we only have the same friends from school”.
That made my heart squeeze because one of the things I’m most passionate about in life is meeting people.
I think that regardless of relationship, it’s very important that we open up, meet new people, new cultures, new flavors.
And for me that’s what makes life worth living.

Why Caraíva?

I decided to go to Caraíva because it’s a place where I feel very much at home, it’s a place where I feel very good.
That meeting of the sea and the rivers is something that calms me down a lot.
Being able to do sport, at the same time, there’s a very charming center with lots of restaurants.
And there I met some friends and made other friends.
I think that’s a really nice thing, you end up opening up a lot more when you’re traveling alone.

ESSENTIAL TIPS

Traveling alone is never a 100% smooth mission.
So the first thing I recommend is getting a reliable transfer when you arrive in Porto Seguro.
I stayed in a hostel called Lumar which was also very well located and there I met a couple of friends and they also introduced me to some people.
I did a lot of walking, went to Satú, which is a beautiful place with a natural pool, ran in the sand, went boating and canoeing, and swam.
I also love browsing the local shops, looking at the handicrafts, eating pastelzinho do Pará, taking a walk along the charming little streets.
Caraíva is growing a lot, it’s impressive.
It was a different Caraíva from the first time I went there.

FEMALE PERSPECTIVE

Caraíva is an itinerary that unfortunately you need to be aware of, like many places in the world, there is a story of a rape there and that was one of the things that worried me. Going out at night alone, that’s the kind of thing you have to be aware of, like walking on the dark beach, there are some alleys. I even thought about buying some pepper spray and keeping it in my bag at all times. Unfortunately, you can’t ignore the fact that there could always be violence. That was one of the things that got to me the most. But at the same time, I think it’s about opening yourself up to the new, it’s about being attentive, it’s about allowing yourself to get to know new things. For all women: We really have to force ourselves to seek our independence, to take our walks, our programs without depending on someone else and to be our own best company – always!
