Jalapão Tocantins

Jalapão is a must for nature lovers and ecotourists!
In the immensity of its 34,000 square kilometers, the region is an oasis in the Brazilian cerrado.
There you’ll find precious fervedouros (crystal-clear springs), golden dunes at sunset, waterfalls, canyons and incredible people who live to take care of the magnificent nature they call home.
You can’t help but leave your heart in the cerrado.

Let's go together?

WHAT TO EXPECT IN JALAPÃO?

  • When to go: You can visit the Jalapão all year round.
From May to September is the dry season.
From October to April is the rainy season, but it remains hot, with only a few rain showers.
  • How many days to stay: in 3 days you can get a taste of what the Jalapão has to offer. We recommend a 5 or 6 day itinerary (and even then you’ll want to come back).
  • Do you need a guide? Hiring an expedition is essential (but not obligatory).
97% of tourists opt for an expedition, since the Jalapão is still a region with little infrastructure, ZERO signs on the dirt roads and soft sand, which require a lot of experience and a properly equipped car.
In addition, some attractions do not allow entry without a local guide.
  • Cell phone connection: cell phone signal is practically non-existent there.
The operator that works best is Claro.
    Take the opportunity to disconnect!
  • Cash: bring cash!
There are no ATMs in the Jalapão and practically no place accepts cards.
Expeditions recommend taking at least R$200 in cash, but if you plan to buy handicrafts, go on extra tours and enjoy a few drinks, consider taking R$400.
  • Traveling alone: Because the trip takes place on an expedition basis, it’s a great destination to go alone!
You’ll always be accompanied, you’ll have the opportunity to meet lots of people, and all the logistics will be organized by the agency.
    No worries.
