Between Rio and São Paulo, more specifically in Paraty, there is a place where you can take refuge from the chaos of the big cities, where time passes slowly, nature is everywhere and the caiçara culture still prevails.

Where it is:

Saco do Mamanguá is located in the municipality of Paraty but is a 1-hour boat ride away from the city.
If you want to get to know Mamanguá in depth – which is very worthwhile!
– we recommend staying directly there and seeing Paraty on the way there or back.

my favorite places:

The tours and restaurants we love the most are Sugar Loaf Peak, the mangrove swamp, the waterfall at Praia do Engenho, the island, paddling and walking the trails.
We also recommend the Mamanguá Beach Bar restaurant, which is perfect for a late afternoon on the sand with delicious drinks, an incredible moqueca and natural fermented pizza at night.
For snacks and portions, Dadico’s restaurant.
A caiçara lunch at Dona Gracinha is also incredible!

How to get there

There are no roads in Mamanguá, so the easiest way to get there is by boat from Paraty Mirim beach, but there is also a trail that starts in Paraty Mirim.

Accommodation:

Hostels are the best option when you’re a solo traveler because, as well as being cheaper, they give you the chance to meet other women and share stories.
O Mamanguá Beach Hostel is the only hostel in Mamanguá and offers the option of shared rooms for women.
If you want a hostel, the Mamanguá Refuge is ideal for couples in love and has delicious dinners.

Female gaze:

Mamanguá is a very safe place for women traveling alone and for all tourists.
The tours – especially in the mangroves – must be accompanied by at least one other person.
Walking along the main trail and paddling is much easier if you go alone.
