This is due to a very strong regionalism, resulting from the creation of seventeen autonomous regions with their own governments, financial planning and cultural ministries, even police forces, at the end of the 1970s.

Women traveling alone shouldn’t encounter any problems in Spain either.
Be careful at night, avoid deserted and poorly lit streets and don’t be alone with strangers in abandoned areas. - Transport: Most big cities have excellent public transport.
Madrid and Barcelona have extensive bus and metro systems, as do other larger cities.
